Diners eating out should announce, "I'm not a tipper," and then allow the wait staff to politely refuse to provide service to that diner. Now, wouldn't that be fair?

Any other suggestions?
Waiters?
Waitresses?
Diners?

What's fairness ethic do you think should be applied?

Depending on the state you live in some wait staff are paid well below minimum wage because it is assumed they will be tipped.

In other states, wait staff are automatically taxed on a percentage of their sales, because it is assumed they will be tipped.

The diner knows up front that the customary tip is 15%. If they have no intention of leaving a tip regardless of the quality of service, then they should eat at home, a pizza place, or a fast food restaurant. On the other hand, if the wait staff provide poor service they should not expect a tip.

I don't believe in not giving a tip. I do, however, feel that it is a gratuity for good service and feel that the tip I give should NOT be taxed, as the gov't. does tax it, and that it should be an extra for the staff that recieves it. Unfortunately, if the place of business paid the employees enough that the tip would be that "extra" that it was designed to be, we, the consumers, would have to pay more for our food. So, I do believe in giving a tip as a gratuity even though I feel that I am almost obligated to do so. Also, sometimes that "gratuity" is forced upon people as in some restaurants actually charge a 15% to 20% tip automatically for tables over five people or after certain hours at night.

I am waiter in Oklahoma and I make $2.13 AN HOUR. NO JOKE! So i think that the restaurant should have to post that somewhere so that everyone knows that we live for tips. Anyone that thinks that wait staff gets an hourly wage too, is rediculous, because I dont get a single dollar after taxes, besides tips......

TIP ~ To ensure Promptness.

If a restaurant did that, I would not be going, and then they would lose revenue and the establishment would close and they would lose their job and that means no salary.

I don't like being told what to leave and how much to leave. A tip is voluntary and to force it is not longer voluntary.

That is like a non-refundable deposit ~ it is no longer a deposit but a fee.

People who are waitress/waiters, know that they might not get tips and if they need the money, then they should get a job where they don't have to depend on the "tips" and not the salary to live.

By definition, a tip is voluntary. Waiting staff also gets salary. A tip is something extra for excellent service, not a mandatory surcharge. Tipping is usually applied based on the standard of service provided.

I think that would be fair. People just dont realize they dont make much money, and most have a family to take care of. The waitstaff work there butts off to give them what they want, and then no tip. Whats up with that????????/
I always tip newere between 5-20$ depending on the service

African-Americans never tip anyway.

It is customary to tip in regards to many professions.

If the service was adequate to very good, a tip is in order.

As previously stated, if you never plan to tip...don't ask people to SERVE you, whether you are in a hotel, restaurant, taxi cab or whatever.

Tipping is also a nice way to say thank you for the good job you did.

Non-tippers, I have found, are self-centered, egotistical, unappreciative, but expect to be waited on hand and foot.

If a diner says that (or the waitstaff can just tell) there won't be a tip, it is very likely that they'll wait on him anyway. Wait staff work hard, and earn their tips, but don't always get them.

Your little announcement is tantamount to saying, "no matter how hard you try, you won't please me enough to tip you so much as two cents" which I'm sorry but I don't think I'd DO that to people who are gonna serve my food and have every opportunity to retaliate. And you have to realize that the wait staff would have no choice but to serve you anyway, or they will be fired, because your "no tipping" thing doesn't hurt the restaurant owner.
so no, I don't think it sounds fair, but I do think it sounds abhorrently cheap....
if you really hate tipping then eat at fast food places. or at home.

Tips are voluntarily. I tip people according to there Customer Service skills, not because I sat and ate at a restaurant they chose to waite tables at.
