Wouldn't it be so simple to keep your negative comments as well as the derogatory language to yourself? It’s very easy to ignore a question rather than respond (with an incorrect answer). If someone is getting help with their homework so what? Sometimes people need help. If we harnessed the energy we waste writing negative comments or ignoring someone in need and then used it positively, this world would be a better place.

We are using it positively - if by some chance we can motivate people to do their own homework instead of calling on the internet to solve every problem, they might actually learn the material - and that's far more valuable than just getting the right answer this one time.

I'll have to agree with your premise. If anyone is to tell others to do their own homework, it should be parents and perhaps teachers. Otherwise, I'll assume that there's a compelling reason to answer a given question if I'm able to do so. Besides, one is limited in asking questions, so we likely cannot do all of the work for someone.

As to why some users do this, perhaps there is some issue that they have that translates into a snide comment, garnering two points in the process. The best solution, DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS.

It is a way to say: neither I can solve your problem.
It is a way to be nasty.
It is a way to show not to want to help.
It is a way to show how lazy he is.
