how small is a small budget? if it's below $1000, maybe you can consider going to yahoo auctions or ebay and get a second hand laptop.
If you can afford something like $1500, then there are a bunch of entry level notebooks from Toshiba, HP, etc that will meet your needs.
I'd recommend getting a Dell. www.dell.com.sg

Depends on just how small your budget is. Dell Inspiron B130 laptop (40GB hard drive, 1.5GHz Celeron M, 256MB RAM) is a good entry level unit and starts out under $500. With online or magazine specials I've seen Dell advertise it for as low as $459. with free shipping.

If that's too much you might find some a little less expensive on eBay. But you really don't know what you're getting until it arrives and by then the seller might just disappear forever.

www.bluehippo.com advertises that they will finance anyone with no credit check. I would imagine their interest rates are extremely high.

Hope this helps a little.

check out acer laptops at computer shopper.com. i owned 3 acer notebooks before and im completely satisfied with the price and performance. to give you an idea: how about a core duo, ati 14000 vid card, 1 gig of ram, 15 inch widescreen, dvdr drive, 80 gig hdd, and this for about $1100. or a 17 inch wide screen laptop for less than $1000. i check this out just a few hours ago.

Could you finance it? Most places offer some sort of deal, like zero interest for 12 months, etc.
