Being old means:
Having enough common sense to make the right choices, but few opportunities to use this knowledge.

Having a mind that wants to go where your body wont take you.

Looking in a mirror and wondering who that old lady is looking back at you.

Hopefully knowing that you have lived a good life and are ready for what you were really created for.....Eternity!

I have no idea. I'm only 40. Ask me again in another 40 years' time!!

I think old is a frame of mind .. and depends on your perspective .. when I was in school I remember calculating I'd be 34 at the end of the century - ancient!! But at 34 I was still young and partying and having the time of my life.

Right now at 40 I don't feel "young" as in like a teenager .. but I don't feel "middle aged" or "old" either. Sure I need reading glasses and my knees hurt if I sit cross-legged too long and I no longer have a flat tummy .. but I love life and every day is fun and full .. so I think age is just irrelevant sometimes. My dad is 80 and he still does all sorts of stuff .. he taught himself how to use the internet, how to do online trading, he paints decorative eggs .. yup, his body is wearing out but he is living a full life.

What I'm learning is that every year the learning and understanding and experience we gain is so amazing, that beyond taking a reasonable amount of care to keep our bodies as healthy as they can be, there's nothing really worth agonising over or dreading, about getting old. When I was younger I never knew it would be like this and so I did dread getting older .. I wish someone had told me how much fun each passing year brings.

I think what I like most about getting older is that all the things I thought were so important when I was younger .. I now see in a different perspective, and I think, wow, what a waste of time and energy I had so many fears and worries and now it's like I've let so many of them go.

So to sum up in perhaps one word, an answer to your question:

what's it like to be old?

FREE.

your mind stays about 25yrs old but your body grows older and slower. Basically, your mind says yes but your body says no. the want to and the knowledge not to.
