It's based on Ultra DMA 33, so it is basically the ATA cable that is made compatible to go at speeds of 33.3 MB per second instead of the regular 16.6 MB per second.

Also, and don't hold me to this one, but I believe that ATA is 40 wire and Ultra ATA is 80 wire. The 80 wire ATA has extra wires that do nothing but reduce crosstalk, which helps gain a little speed.
