Codec stands for coder/decoder. Basically to play back a video or audio file you'll need the same codec that was used to encode it. I would suggest you download VLC player http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
as it doesn't require the installation of any codecs, they are built right in.

go to windows media player codecs. or you can try nimo codecs or even ace codecs. use a search. codecs are relatively easy to download. you can find a program that will have all the codecs you need for virtually everything. good luck.

get the divx codec it also comes with a player install if u want but all u need is the codec
