Of course aliens exist. It would be arrogant to think otherwise. And I'd feel sorry for everything that exists in the universe if we (humans) are the smartest beings ever created/evolved.

I really don't know a whole lot about space since I'm more into chemistry but I find it fascinating especially when I hear about some obscure theories for example, I once read that the earth is hit by a huge comet every 64 million years and the impact is so powerful that vast amounts of dust and debris is hurled into the atmosphere, blocking out the sun and sending the planet into an ice age. This is what killed off the post-dinosaur animals that inhabited the planet during that period. And presumably the lifeforms before them and the ones before those apparently because the planet has not been hit once, but supposedly various times. If any of this is true, I don't think 64 million years has passed since the last ice age so we don't have much to worry about. As far as aliens are concerned, well, I do happen to believe that some type of extraterrestrial life exists, regardless whether they posess interplanetary travel capabilities or not. Just because an extraterrestrial race exists, doesn't automatically mean that they are scientifically advanced. On the other hand, I used to live in Puerto Rico about 20 years ago as a child when my parents retired and we used to live in a mountainous coastal area. I used to stay up late every once in a while and that's when I noticed these strange glowing lights, (at least 4 or 5), descending and disappearing behind one of the mountains that our house was located next to. Unfortunately, there was never anyone else around to see this, or at least anyone that I was aware of. This was going on at least a couple of times a month but didn't bother investigating this any further since whenever I told someone I was always told that it was the army conducting war games and such which I didn't believe anyway. The lights appeared to move in an orderly fashion, not at random. But anyway, I let it go and one day while I was looking for cane sugar with a couple of buddies, (we used to make liquor out of it), deep in the mountain area, we came across a circular (or semi-circular) flattened down patch of sugar cane within the field itself. Within the patch, all the cane had been flattened down like a pancake and at first we thought that it might have been a machine or a cow stampede but the problem was that there was no visible means of entry since all the surrounding cane around the patch was standing up straight, undisturbed. The patch had about a 50 ft. radius and it was no hoax since we never reported it and there isn't anyone up there in the mountains to even be able to appreciate such a stupid trick if it were one. We let it be, figuring that we'd probably be accused of messing up the cane sugar field. But I've never forgotten it, and it's still a mystery to me 'till this day.

Have you ever read anything by Isaac Asimov? After reading about 20 of his books I have a much greater appreciation for the universe. He is able to set up situations that allow you to put the vastness in perspective. He describes a future history of humankind through the next tens of thousands of years, including all the technology and space travel etc. Start by reading 'Foundation' if you're interested. He was actually a scientist so everything he describes seems a lot more plausible than if he was just an author.

The universe is a pretty vast entity to be fascinated with. If you saw the movie "Superman," it begins with just showing the universe, just a vast open of stars, and to me that was the first time it all was really put into perspective. Although the Bible speaks of Earth as a pretty imporant place to God, it is a tiny planet in a gigantic space, but maybe that's just collateral. Anyway, I've done quite a bit of contemplating about the universe myself, and could definitely offer NASA a few theories. For one, the key to time travel exists within black holes. No doubt. The only problem is, are we capable of creating a spacecraft powerful enough to fly within one, then fly out of it? The answer, physically, is probably 'no.'

Space is so vast, that, yea, it completely facinates me, and i am always wondering what all is out there. I myself have seen three (3) U.F.O. s, and i say ufo, because i spent 8 years in the U.S. Navy, and have seen all types of aircraft, ours as well as aircraft from many other countries, and i know how aircraft work, these 3 ufos flew in a manner that was impossible to modern aviation, BUT, as i could not see them up close and personal, i therefore could not tell you that they were positively from some other world, they were simply "Unidentified" Flying Objects. The military may well have some totally new form of air travel, that has yet to reach the level of commercial introduction. I do hope that if there are aliens out and about in space that we can find a peaceful way of coexisting, if not, at least it will have been proven that we are not alone. I.D.I.C.

As far as extraterrestrial life and UFOs, the Drake equation really made me consider the possibility.

Scientists have actually found several planets far in excess of the mass of Jupiter, in many different orbital paths ranging from the fairly standard orbits of our own solar system, wildly eliptical orbits, and even one 3-4x Jupiter mass planet orbiting a star within what we would consider the inner solar system/rocky planet area. Also, due to some new techniques, scientists are beginning to be able to detect near-Earth sized planets, of which the smallest yet to be detected was roughly 3 Earth masses.

Uh, Astronomy and Discover magazines cover a lot of current space research. So does Scientific American.

I think the Hubble Space Telescope web site and JBL web site are good.

Any of Hawking's books are good --most books are out of date really fast!

My own obsession is with whether simulaneity exists or not --hmmm.

Personally, I very strongly doubt that UFOs and aliens exist, though there might be a lot of blue/green algae and fungus on habitable worlds of the universe. "We might be alone."

I don't know about UFOs and aliens and all that crap but if you check out the space portions of Bill Bryson's book A Short History Of Nearly Everything it's pretty freakin' sweet.

It certainly is a fascinating subject! And I don't see why there wouldn't be other life forms out there! Just because we don't yet have the technology to find them, doesn't mean it doesn't exist!
