I cannot answer for all of the Scots, Welsh and Irish but for myself (Canadian of German heritage), this is how it is for me.
I do not hate the English football team but I do have a problem with many of the fans. They are always abusive of other teams and their fans and do seem to go out of their way to annoy people. They certainly take a certain spiteful glee in other teams misfortunes (how many times did I receive a picture of a Munich scoreboard showing the result of a totally meaningless game 5 years ago?).As a result, I am usually happy when the English team loses. Examples of abuse you might ask? Look in your own question: " Bronnimoose and many other assholes" & "so what...at least we qualified. I didnt see the Welsh, Scottish or the Irish flags flying In Germany, oh thats right, u didnt qualify did u...like I said, Jealousy only makes a person bitter... u bunch of Green eyed monsters". It seems that the English are only reaping what they have sown over the years.
Merely a suggestion but if you don't want people to hate you, perhaps you should try to be nice to them or at the least, show some respect. Cheers!

Football is just a game. It's not a war. We shouldn't take it TOO seriously to the point that we start to HATE teams, and especially, hating people not directly related to the game that we don't even know. That's a form of racism... and like the sign they always put up before each World Cup game says: "Say No To Racism"
I'm from the Philippines. Spain colonized us for hundreds of years. The United States occupied our country for decades. The Japanese took over for a few years. Undeniably, all three countries have committed atrocities towards Filipinos. But that's all over, and personally, I don't hate these teams. In fact, I admire the Spanish and Japanese teams (sorry USA, but your team needs a lot more improvement). I'm not jealous over these teams because they got into the World Cup, and we (the Philippines) don't even have an AFC team this! =) That's how bad we are at the game...
Okay, so maybe some of the atrocities haven't exactly been fully admitted, and maybe some of these countries haven't done enough to pay for the damage they've done. However, we're talking FOOTBALL here! Let's not bring these past political issues into the game. It just takes away the spirit of sports, and does not encourage good sportsmanlike behavior.
However, there is one thing I think I should say to the asker: You brought up some important issues, and I completely understand how you are frustrated with these people. Nevertheless, I think you should have refrained from making negative comments about them. It creates a cycle of hatred. Let's try to understand how other people feel. Think about it... perhaps, if we were in their position, and grew up in the same environment they did, we may have thought the same way they do.
ANYWAY, the main point is, FOOTBALL ROCKS! It's supposed to be fun and enjoyable both playing and watching it, and teams don't necessarily have any political agendas connected to their country. Let's not forget that, after all, football is only a game.

I'm with Londoner. I'd probably give them my full support as a fellow home nation, over the diving scum of mainland Europe.
Well... maybe not the Scottish. lol, joking ;)
But I never understand the English hating. We give the rest of Britain a decent team to support. So why not back a fellow home nation?
And if they want to get political, then it should be noted that the Welsh and Northern Ireland has political assemblies, and Scotland its own government. What does England have... none.
And if the 15 Scottish MPs hadn't voted for England and Wales to have to pay top up fees, then the stupid system would not have been passed. And guess who doesn't pay tuition fees... SCOTLAND! Meaning they got to vote on something that doesn't even concern their citizens, and possibily ruining many a persons hopes of going to uni in fear of the spiraling debt.
But back onto the World Cup. You are all just bitter that you can't qualify ;)

Well said, I think the problem with all of these England haters......they all prolly have far too much time on their hands and lead such sad lives that they really have nothing better to do with their time. It's not just confinded to a minority of Welsh, Scottish or Irish morons however. As for the foreign contingent that have thrown their lot in, you really need to stop being resentful of our country. After all, and yes i'm taking a swipe at a certain nationality...if it wasn't for a booming tourist industry to which the English (and British in general) contribute massively...you'd all still be living in huts...Get over yourselves..

ah the eternal question... my humble and considered opinion is they Welsh, Irish and Scots, are what we call the have nots... so they immediately take this racial dislike to the haves in this case England and the people thereof... they live in these cold crappy little countries where it is alwasy raiing and grey miserable... so they don't like it.. I come fromthe prosperous south east of England where the sun is always shinging and the streets are paved with gold... milk and honey flows from taps inthe streets and everything is great... actually it's all crap and the haters are just the worst kind or racists.. I was marreid to a scottish woman for 17 years by the way and had to put up with a load of crap from her family who were a bunch of racists

Yes, I'm another English person sick of being verbally spat at by the rest of the United Kingdom. This whole 'I'll back any team but England' attitude continually demonstrated throughout the world cup and permeating through life in general. The Scots have even been beating up their own kin for wearing 'England' t-shirts!
Until now I've deemed myself 'British', but beginning of this year I made the decision to deem myself 'English'. If you don't want to be associated with me why on Earth should I be associated with you?
No, I will not be backing Andy 'Anyone but the English' Murray at Wimbledon...

The most stupid part of what you have written is that the Irish, scottish etc can't hate the English as they think they do, as they would have to get to know them, how can you hate something unless you get to know it? Also when England win, lose I don't care about other teams but mine, The jocks seem to be more interested on Englands result then there own team, which I must say play in the ENGLISH league, why cos theres is utter crap, I think that sums it up.

Anyone hear what Andrew Murray said a few weeks back? He said that he wasn't supporting England along with the rest of the Scottish.
Then when we were knocked out, they said something on adverts about how our only British hope is Andrew Murray, and I was like, I'm not supporting that d*ckhead. Only British hope? I'd rather support the Argentinians.

I am English too. The reason why the flak is coming? When the most second most overated and the most over-HYPED team in the world got knocked out of a tournament in which they had excuses for every poor performance, did you expect that the rest of the world would keep quiet about it? I was expecting this tear-down, but I am surprised you weren't.
