Pick the name of a Greek God and add something behind it. That's powerful. Like "Athena Construction"

The naming of your business could be one of the most important decisions you will make. A name's originality and legal availability will create a real asset value of its own, as it becomes marketed and gains market acceptance.
The name you choose will become the focal point of all the benefits and features that relate to your business. Customers will be able to find and refer others to it in the future.
Since any names that are suggested here may already be owned by another party, I wanted to go a different route...
I suggest either hiring a name creation firm or get together with your friends and/or family and throw a "name party" & have everyone bounce some ideas around. Compile a listing of names that you like the best. Once you have that list, do as much free research as you can before you delve into comprehensive research.
I listed some links where you can do some preliminary name checking. However, please be aware that this is merely scratching the surface of what's out there.
Only comprehensive research will tell you if the name is truly available. But, these links are free & a great place to start, so I'd try them out first.
There are other sites that offer free searching capabilities in conjunction with their commercial services, so I'm not able to post those links due to the Yahoo! TOS. You'll also want to check domain names & yellow pages, so simply do a search for "free domain name search" and "national yellowpages" and the appropriate links will pop up.
Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Use the principle "create a name that solve a problem", as the main objective of a company is to satisfy a market need, you shoud try that with the name. For example, if the market is claiming for good quality, cheap, glass works you should try to fullfil this needs with a name such as reliaglass works, or something similar. Anyway nobody else than you knows your market needs to find the right name.

First all research your name carefully b/c you could be choosing a lawsuit, and no small business owner can afford to do that. Go to www.uspto.com (US Patent and Trademark Office) and check out the Trademark side.
Also contact the Small Business Administration for low rate loans and grants to get started.

Try choosing something relevent, to you, to your business, your location, your USP (what seperates you from the competition), or go random and add your childrens initials, your initials etc.
Look at icons / logos etc you like and use that as a draft. Or get a professional to do this for you. get a them then the name and identity will come far more easily.

Go with your own name because your company will be built on its reputation. That is how Nordstroms did it. Sure you are in a different industry, but in the end...it means quality and service, and that is what will keep you in business.

Most contractors just go with their names. It gives the feeling that you are risking your namesake on your work. Makes people trust you. Just a thought.

Think about your business name as a "free" advertisement - do not waste it for some meaninless word. You can make it fency, but keep some "subliminal" meaning, like "alumna construction", etc
