You have to be very careful. Even with some legitimate on line universities, those credits may not be accredited to a real degree and then all you will end up with is a phony certificate worth nothing.

You can take some on-line courses and then transfer to a 4 year university...if they will accept those credits towards their program.

I took an on-line course from a university that eventually I got a degree from, and then was admitted to a state university and those credits transferred.

I would say...an on-line certificate loses some credibility because there are so many phony ones out there...how do you tell them apart from the legit ones?

This is a really broad question and perhaps you may need to be more specific about the particular program or course that you are refering to.

Online education in some cases may refer to distance learning or in other cases simply refer to electronic learning (eLearning). The former is broader and evolved from the correspondence learning that was started with the advent of the world war to ensure that education continued uninterupted in the face of war.

The latter was simply a consequence of the Internet and its wide acceptance throughout the world in the spirit of globalization. You simply take a course online not primarily because of the distance between you and the tutor but because it is a scalable and affordable way of conducting it. you may have heard about Learning Management Systems that are used within the college by students and tutors to collaborate even when they are on the same campus.

For college based education it means that you have to be placed at the college and this is acompletely different paradigm but more traditional and acceptable. May be that is why you are wondering whether the college based and the eLearning based will produce a same quality certificate.

Unfortunately with the advent of eLearning, there have been many quacks and substandard programs that have come up with the sole aim of making a quick buck. This is the reason why I thought you should be more specific.

Perhaps before you make a decision, you need to do a thorough background check on the institution to ascertain that it is accredited by a higher education's regulatory body and its charter adopted or approved by as many countries as possible. This should mitigate against having to pay for a useless piece of paper that is not recognised.

On the overall however, the college based education and the eLearning (or better still the Open Distance and eLearning - ODeL) based certificate should be the same if proper standards are followed and checks and balances put in place. The key - do a thorough background check.

All the best!

Most online education can help you yes if you work hard. Most degrees are made to be accomplished in 2 years. But if you want it in one year you just have to work harder, most them are work at your own pace. You can actually work on it 7 days a week or more than say 5-9 hours a day then you should be able to accomplish it in under 2 years!

Online education is where you can study online, and acess all your course information through a specific educational website. Search google for organisations that offer this type of service.
