The countries with the military power to wage another World War are very involved in economic trade. As long as the US and China have mutual reasons for trade, there is no pressure to cause enmity between them. The probability of another World War in the atomic age is slight.
The religious/terrorist fanatics that want to wage war do not have the capability to draw the world into another world war -- just occasional (unfortunate) regional conflicts will occur.

Some insane politician will use the conflict to cover his butt instead of telling the truth to all and looking like a jerk in the eyes of the world.
