Emo, is a terminology used to describe that of the emotional state teens and people who listen to music that is mostly expressing in strong emotions. If you were to think literally, all songs are "emo" but the music they mostly refer to is like country music, where everyone is losing everything, just with rock mentality.

Emo is really just today’s word for GOTH. That lends itself to Goth bands, dark metal, and the like. I guess with the inclusion of gangsta rap as a form of music, anything is fair game.

Yes. But I prefer to call it Rock...
and NO...Emo is NOT Goth....
Examples...
AFI (Goth Punk)
Hawthorne Heights (Emo)
UnderOath (Emo/Scream-o)
Listen to their songs. The sound, subject matter, and everything about them is different. Also Emo is a SOUND not a LOOK.
Check out a Blog by the band LOSTPROPHETS (www.myspace.com/lostprophets) titled "Emo"
They set the record straight on what Emo is, and that it's NOT a look...it's a sound of music...

Definitely. It has an evergrowing amount of artists that are listing themselves as it.
Take Dashboard Confessional, My Little Radio, and Alesano for instance. (www.purevolume.com)
