Men are definitely more concerned with their maleness. People (men) hardly ever question how feminine a woman is, but if a dude is not living up to "man rules" other men (and some women) will remind him to step in line:
"You run like a girl" "You throw like a girl" Comparing a man to a woman is a sure way to make him feel bad about himself. This also says alot about how our society views women and their percieved weakness. You hardly--if ever hear anyone telling a girl that she runs or throws like a man.
Girls can hug, kiss, and hold hands and no one says anything. These are the rules and they don't really benefit either sex. Considering all that, I would say definitely men...and rightfully so (unfortunately).

Both. People usually think that it's women but you'd be surprised at the amount of men who take forever to get ready because they're concerned about their public image.

Women definitely, some men too, but women are more. I have to make sure that I am perfect, (well since no one is perfect as near to as possible), when I go out; but in the house too. I look at my self countless amounts of times everyday just to make sure every piece of hair clothing etc. is still in place. Even when I am stopped at a red light I have to check.

Women are more open about their public image and its importance, men tend to down play its importance or deny that it is important in the first place. I think the winner of this answer is a TIE! Women and men both care about the importance of their image.

Men for sure, they are always trying to strut their stuff. That is why the males in nature are the brightest, showiest of the species. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I love it.

I've heard that men dress more for public approval, while women dress more according to how they feel.
