I used an ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 XT for a few years. It worked well. I changed to a Hauppage card when I decided that I prefered to separate my TV/capture card from my video card to make upgrading less expensive.

Hauppauge makes great capture cards. I don't have any personal favorites though. I personally do not like the ATI cards. The one i had about a year ago had major software instability problems, as well as rather crude software.

It depends on what you're trying to capture...video, audio, other? PC World rates all types of hardware and software, try them.
