I think the US will be the last true superpower in the sense of pure strength. The next one will be more economic and most likely a group rather than single country.

I think it is too soon tell. The United States has a long run left as the super power and things may change over that time. Most folks think China is the obvious choice and it has a lot going for it but it also has a lot of handicaps. China will be hurt by peak oil and peak natural gas much more than will the United States. Global warming will also hurt both China and India more as well because they have less wealth available to tackle the problems that will arise. It will probably be more than 50 years before the US is outshone and a lot can happen in that time.

China will replace US soon if it hasnt done so yet; Chinese labor produces almost 75 % of what is being sold in WalMart, Macy's, Target,Sears ,Toys "r" Us and many others. The US used to produce everything here but has now given up the MEANS of production totally to China. It is a fact that outsourcing almost everything to the chinese, the next generation of American will eat chinese, buy chinese, and soon the US will be just a consumer of all chinese junk. The chinese have been buying US corporations like IBM and others. China is in good position to sabotage US economy. Chinese loans to the US partly keep the local Wall Street afloat. America has lost the economic 'war' to China

It depends how you define power.
Military Power: The US is so far ahead, I doubt any nation could gear up to our level without starving their people (e.g. Korea)
Economic Power: Again, the US economy can't be touched without enslaving people and discarding the poorest of a nations population.
Human Resources: India and China, but they have HUGE hurdles to overcome before they can utilize their people for production. Most of the populations in these countries RUN to America for a better life.

I really don't think it will be China. Things just don't seem like they will go their way. I do like the answer that there will be no more super power after the US, but if I had to make a choice, I would think it would be Italy or the UK. Iran is a joke, better chance of afganistan.

China or India I think. Their population is growing and in a matter of time 1 of them would replace the US.
