It's all about oil and gaining a foot hold in the Middle East.
As for gas prices going up... Bush is an oil man (did you think they would go down?).
How esle can the big oil companies pay their excutives 50+ million per year?
The war on terrorism should have stayed in Afganistan - maybe they might have even caught O. B-L (not going to print his name becasue I don't want Bush (et al) to know me.

We are still in Iraq for many reasons. First of all we can't just leave the country after we overthrew their government or the country would plunge into civil war between the Sunni and Shi'ite Muslims. If we were to leave now the world, who is currently against the war, would erupt into protests about how we let the country plunge into civil war. That includes protests from the good ol' liberals here in this country. Secondly, now we are partially there for the oil in the region, that was also partly a reason for entering in the first place. However, contrary to the public's belief, the oil wasn't a main reason for entering the country. We want to stay there and establish Iraq as an ally who we can cheaply buy oil from. This is comparable to what we did to Japan after World War II, rebuilt the country and got an ally. That is unlikely to happen in Iraq because of the instability of the nation and region. However it is worth a shot to stay there considering what is at stake. Those are the two main reasons we are currently still in Iraq. Of course, there are many more reasons but those are the most obvious and easily understandable.

Just because gas prices are higher doesn't mean that oil has nothing to do with Iraq.. It is about the oil, Think about it folks. Whenever an oil guy gets into the white house (Bush, Cheney, Bush the 2nd) ever notice how we somehow find ourselves in a war against countries rich in oil and gas prices go up? I'm sure it's just a big coincidence though.
I'm sure its a coincidence that Dick Cheney's Halliburton oil company just happened to get a multi million dollar no bid contract to pump oil in Iraq.
I'm sure its also a coincidence that the man who attacked us on 9/11 is sittin pretty in another country while Bush and the oil guys send most of our forces to get Saddam. If it was a war on terrorism wouldn't you think we would have had a few hundred thousand troops looking for Bin Laden and not fighting in oil rich Iraq? I'm sure if Bin Laden was sittin on some oil we would have caught him by now.

The reason we're still in Iraq is to help the Iraqi government stand up on its own two feet. I know a lot of people think that we shouldn't be over there, but I do. Iraq has been, and still is to some degree, a really impoverished nation due to Saddam. Now that the people there are free to set up a government of their own, things might improve for them over there- and helping out anyone who wants to make their life better is something I would gladly see done.

The United States' stated mission in Iraq is to ensure the government is installed, and Iraq is able to function on its own. Right now, neither of those conditions are met, so the United States will continue to have a presence.
Also, last I checked, the United States does not import oil from Iraq.

All you nuts that keep on repeating the mantra that it's all about oil don't have a clue about what you are saying. Just because you heard your democrat parents spout their ignorant ideas, you now have to parrot the same. If you had any common sense, you would realize that if this were true, and if there was any proof of that, the liberal media would be on top of this. It would be all over the front pages of all the liberal newspapers. Heads would roll. All the democrats can do is snipe at Bush. Don't you think he would have been impeached long ago if any of that were true. They can't touch him because that is a lie. The simple minded liberal masses have come to believe this because they keep on repeating a lie and are now brainwashed.

I can't remember the guy's name, but he said the oil companies wanted to stop or slow down production to make the price of oil increase. The man was a guest on The Alan Colmes Show about a month or so ago. If any of you know the name, please put it in your response.
He went on to say how people working for the oil companies actually drew maps of the oil wells so they could have U.S troops guard them. I think we are still in Iraq because we don't want to admit mistakes were made. My father says this will be the Vietnam war for my generation.

if you drive....then you would realize it's not about oil. gas prices are still higher than they need to be. On another note, has anyone noticed the countries we have attacked....iraq afghanistan....possibly iran, and who were trying to be friendly with? take a look at the map and think real hard about who may cause problems for the U.S in the near future and tell me thats not the reason were getting a foothold...
