No. That would make things terribly confusing. I don't see this as an inequality issue. I see this as an issue of organization. It's just easier if everyone in the family has the same last name. And I say that as someone with step-children with different last names from myself. It creates confusion. As it is, I have often pretended to have my wife's ex-husband's last name whenever the kids' teachers call asking for him, when they're really asking for me but don't know that they live with someone with a different last name. It's just easier than trying to explain why our names are different.

I don't care who's last name people have, as long as I know who they're related to.
