I like books by Michael Crichton and John Grisham.

Try a book called "Hatchet". Can't remember who wrote it. It's a quick read paperback and really exciting. If you saw "The Edge" with Alec Baldwin, it's a story like that.

One of my favorite books is Call of the Wild, by Jack London.
It is quite different from Crichton and Grisham novels, but it is one of my all time favorite books. It is non stop action and adventure, from beginning to end.
I highly recommend you read it.
