The Crown of Thorns starfish is being eradicated, which is a big step in retaining the Reef, and strict conservation programs have been put in effect to reduce the wear and tear on the reef. Parts of it are coming back and the deterioration of other parts is being slowed. Hopefully it can be restored completely, as it was one of the moste magnificent dive sites I've ever seen, and of course, was a haven for thousands of species of underwater creatures.
