are you searching the images thru Yahoo or Google..
ok..this is the way to do it
When you click on the result of the Image...it takes you to the next page..where the image is at the top and the current page at the bottom..
ON the link of the image at the TOP...Right CLICK..and Choose Save AS.
that is the only way you are going to save the images to JPG or GIF if you find the images thru search Engines..

by default the file type that you are alowed to save in is the file type that the person who uploaded the image saved it as, so a gif will download as a gif, a jpeg, as ajpeg, and a bmp as a bmp. You may get a 3rd party free program like Ifranview, it will open all the bmps and save them as whatever type you want.

Try clearing your IE cache. Sometimes when the cache is full, it will default to saving as BMP even if your original image is JPG or GIF.

Yikes---I think what you are trying to save will initially be saved in the format it was presented in. The basic format upon which all others are based is bitmap. You can go to photoshop and convert it to other formats, for example. I believe all animations will be .gif files...as that is the basic animation format..Refreshing the page will have no effect on changing a photo or animation format..

I have the same problem sometimes and find the easiest way around it is to just locate the file in my Internet cache folder and copy it out from there.
So long as you sort the files by last modified (more recent first) it should be top of the list.

If you don't have that option, the creator of the graphic may have restricted your access. You may be able to find the original URL with the .gif extension, which will point you to the file and allow you to grab it...but developers and designers are getting better at preventing their work from being nabbed!

Also sometimes you can change the type by using the drop down menu "Save as type" at the bottom of the save box.
