First, it depends on the kind of felt you used. Wool felt is different from the stuff you buy on the bolt at JoAnn Fabrics. The cheap stuff - no way. Wool felt - possibly, but with reservations.

Wool felt is often washed first. If it hasn't been pre-washed, then don't even consider washing the finished product, as it will shrink horribly. If it has been washed, you still have other things to consider. If the wool has been dyed, it may bleed. You could try washing it with something like Shout Color Catchers. If you've only used a little wool in your project, you'd probably be safe. If the entire top is wool felt, however, you really are better off dry cleaning it.

As far as using it on a quilt - go right ahead. People do it all the time, and there are some beautiful wool quilts out there. Just make sure any cleaning instructions are handed down with the quilt.

You can wash it, but it will shrink like a wool sweater. If you put it on a quilt and have it Dry Cleaned you will have better luck

felt should be hand washed and Never put into the dryer, where it will shrink. I wouldn't suggest using it on a quilt, unless you're using it as a decoration.

No, you dry clean felt. And no, you should not use it on a quilt. But why would you want to? It would make it lumpy.
