You make me want to scream.

That was a very very old derogatory (and ignorant) thing to tell people from Sicily, because the island is close to Africa. To make Sicilians mad, they said that the island broke of off Africa.

You know what, it never made my Grandparents mad, it made them laugh at the ignorant people.

People say that because the Moors invaded Sicily. The moors where Caucasian people and they only were in Sicily for a few hundred years. The Romans were there for two thousand years.......I wonder if that had any affect...(smile). Sicily was also conquered and occupied by the Phoenicians.....the Greeks....the Spanish....all Caucasian peoples. And lets not forget the Normans who were a Germanic people and stayed in Sicily for about 3 hundred years. Do you think any of them did the wild thing when they were there.......another smile.

It's just an old put-down. They use it because Sicily is closer to Africa then the rest of Italy.

I'd love to answer your question but it would be good if you go to the library yourself or other websites and do a little bit of research on Itay. If the site is honest you could answer your own question. People try to hide their true identity at times. Educate yourself, you'll find the answer. Good Luck.

I've never heard this until now. I've the other's answers and they're interesting. Makes sense for where the "saying" originated.

P.S. blewz4u, he may make you want to scream, but you make me laugh (your first sentence).

I didn't know that they did. But, why let it bother you? People are sometimes ignorant of the facts, so try to forgive them.
