Here is a website with the laws in Alabama concerning divorce.

To answer you question, you do not (really) need "cause" to get a divorce in Alabama. Adultery is a "cause or reason" and you can file for divorce FOR that reason, but so is "complete incompatibility of temperament that the parties can no longer live together."

As for as if you can get some kind of compensation...that is a different matter. Alabama has strict laws concerning "Alimony and Support (AKA: Allowance).

In general these rules apply:

You cannot support yourself without the money or you have not worked (very much) during the marriage and were dependent upon him for support.

If your husband gets his income from a retirement program you must have been married for a period of 10 years during which the retirement was being accumulated.

There are lots of factors in determining if you can get any allowance or compensation out of him... only an Alabama Attorney who knows all the facts can advise you.

I believe that Alabama has a "no fault" divorce law. You don't have to prove anything. If you're poor you can get "Probono" (read free) to get your divorce. Then you can get childsupport. 20% of his net income. Next time choose better.
