People fear the unknown. If you aren't familiar with anyone of a particular, different color or race, you'd assume that there must be something intrinsically different about them that you need to be wary of. Sad and unfortunate, but true.

why? because society has put it in young people from the get go that its the way society believes in. its a shame because it doesnt matter what race a person is if they are gonna do wrong,harm someone,rape someone it sure in the hell doesnt have a THING to do with race! they on the other hand have done statistics that show which race has committed what crimes. that then is just the plain facts.

Some people are very much afraid of anything that is different. It leads them to question who they are, they compare themselves with others and you know what happens:
"If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater
and lesser persons than yourself."-Desiderata
If we can accept that it's OK to be different, then it wouldn't matter. But for many people it's not OK because if the other guy is OK, maybe that means that they're not OK. They see only one possibility for OK, and if it's not themselves, then they may have to redefine themselves and that may just not be possible.

Because their parents were scared and passed their beliefs down. It's a stupid process, really. I wish I could make an anti-discrimination potion and spike the world's supply of water with it.

No exposure to anyother race...after being exposed to another culture all eyes are opened to the great similarities that each one holds.

blame it all on thier ignorance. let them be on thier way and and do your best to avoid being friends with people like that. but if someone you care about is like that introduce them to someone other than thier normal group of friends and broaden thier horizons.
