So... I love the way betta fish look, however, I want a tropical community fish tank...

What is a type of fish that is as finny and beautiful as the betta fish, but other fish friendly?

You can add your betta to a community tank with a variety of other fish around his size and without flowing fins (danios, tetras, African dwarf frogs [yes, frogs!], ghost shrimp, peaceful gouramis, even guppies if your tank is more than 30 gallons and has plenty of shelter). However, if you want a betta-less tank, consider male fancy-tailed guppies (if you choose to add females, remember to keep them in a 1 male for every two female ratio and realize you will have babies about once a month).

Angelfish are also beautiful fish, but you cannot put them in with smaller fish, as they are semi-aggressive and will make snacks of anything smaller than they are.

Good luck!

They have very "finny" goldfish available.
They are inexpensive, and they tend to get along with other fish quite well. They obviously aren't tropical, but they are very pretty and make for great decoration in a tank.

If you really want a nice a community tropical tank, you really should check out the gourami's. They have they in varieties of colors, and they reminds me sooooo much of salt water fish, but are pretty peaceful tropical fish. You could also check out freshwater puffers. I used to have these two cute drawf puffers in my tropical tank with some gourami's. Angelfish are also really pretty, but if you get them in groups of 3 or more, they become pretty aggressive. Guppies are easy to take care of, and you can get them in a variety of colors, but ive never found them to be that interesting. I think gourami's would be your best bet. They are alot of fun.

Good Luck!!

Take a look at veil-tailed guppies. Some of those little guys get nearly as pretty as the Betta.

Angels are great and they grow quite large and then they are really beautiful, just don't get more than two if you want other fish too. The rule is 1 gallon of water per inch of fish (grown). My one angel is about 5 inches and then I have smaller fish such as neons, platys and zebra Danio and also a plecostamus (algae eater) which also grows quite large (mine is about 5 inches too).

Gouramis (I think that's how it is spelled) with some platys and sword tails and a few neons make a nice combo...Some finny-ness with color makes an excellent combo!

Fan-tailed guppies are pretty. So are fan-tailed goldfish and koi. All those are friendly.
