Yes, for about 10 seconds. They wouldn't comprehend what was going on because they would be in shock though. As long as your brain gets blood and oxygen you can function.

I remembered some weird things associated with the guillotine (see link) and suspect that except for lack of lungs to speak a great deal is going on.

I imagine it would also depend upon if you had exhaled or inhaled last. Screaming probably makes you die faster. Less air.

There is an old gangster movie I saw once were a guy put his victims face in a mirror and shot him in the back of the head through the forehead so he could see it as he died.

I have never hated anyone that much but I could feel how he felt to do that. Know what I mean?

No one knows for sure, how can u experiment this question...well during the french revolution right before the time of Napoleon, the 1st Estate or Lower Class revolted. They killed hundreds if not thousands of Nobles, one such noble man who knew he was to beheaded told his friend to watch his head as it was cut off. He would blink as long as he could. His friend watched and he blinked 7 times...this is a true story that has been documented however i cannot remember the nobleman's name. Some believe the moment your beheaded or shot in the head you would instantly die; however, realistically speaking it would take a few seconds for you to faint and then die. Think of it like holding your breath; if you hold ur breath do you die, no because your body can run on what little oxegyn you have and your body uses Acid Fermentation. So with out Acid Fermentation your brain would have a few seconds using what oxegyn it had before it died.

The brain is a remarkable mechanisim, it is said that when we
are at death's door that the hearing is one of the last senses to
go so if there was any life left in the cells of the brain it is entirely
possible that the person could see for a few seconds before the
brain died because the oxygen supply had been severed.

I would say no, as all the Cranial Nerves would be severed and no longer connected to the brain, thats in the head. The Optic nerve would no longer be attatched to the brain stem, and hence vision not an option.
