Especially the sleep inducing art house films.

They are boring because they have nothing to do with the current goings on that you know about or have personal experience. The art house films are about some idea or incident that made an impact on the writer/directors vision of his or her life. Its just a longer version of a commercial. In essence directorial propaganda? What do you have in common with Europe? As a nation/country we are so young in terms of history and goings on that what impacts us over here is old hat over there.
And? As you get older? One would hope that as a person you would learn to enjoy many different types of filmmaking...having of course your own personal favorite...but still partaking of other ideas and concepts...

Movies tend to reflect the culture they come from. If you're not European, you'd have a difficult time relating to even the most successful films from there. Not relating = not caring = boring.

They are not boring, they just require more than just watching, they are different from each other and are art. Unlike many American movies.

See some Almadovar movies or Fellini movies- they're hilarious.

because they are about things that happen to people, not just about visual effects and car chases. They require you to think more than you are used to or willing to, maybe.
