There must be a continuing existence after our lives end because everything we know, scientifically, philosophically, and culturally seems to suggest this. AJ Ayer, an infamous athiest, choked on a "red herring" and then confided to a few people that there was an afterlife and he experienced the entrance into it. He revised this story a few times before dismissing it entirely.
The majority of cases in which a subject "dies" and then is revived shows seems to suggest that not only is there a continued existence but an ultimate source in which our lives mapped out. Even the biggest skeptics have experienced such supernatural events.
There seems to be this . . . sixth sense . . . in which all of human-kind possesses. Some supernaturalists claim psychic powers or supernatural communication stems from here and, to be frank, there is revolutionary scientific data that suggests SOMETHING unexpected is happening.
There are branches of actual science that are devoted to the possibility that maybe we have left some truth out. Quantum physics, for example, definitely studies objective information and this analysis leads to revolutionary conclusions in this field.
So scientific studies do seem to imply that something extraordinary is going on. Does this mean there are gods/Gods playing chess withour lives? No but it does mean that we certainly cannot rule out a religious explanation.

I believe our souls depart for the after life because I'm a Christian. Every religion on the planet entails an afterlife. So no matter what you believe, death isn't the end. But I think that we either go to heaven or to hell depending on how we live our lives.

I was brought up Catholic then converted Lutheran and now am Christian.
All three religions taught me that there is a soul and depending on your lifes actions you could be anywhere in your afterlife.

Yeah, I believe in afterlife. If I choose to believe in God and an afterlife, and I'm wrong, I've lost nothing. If I choose NOT to believe, and I'm wrong, there's hell to pay. Literally.

According to christians and the bible YEs there IS a heaven and it can only be reached by asking Jesus christ to forgive your sins and live a life of service to his kingdom (brining other people to heaven with you!) This is a question no one can give you the "right" answer. but if you ask me, there is no re-incarnation in this world. we will only exist in the world of spirits. on earth, we change our soul through the things we live or learn, the places we visit, the people we meet. but in the world of the spirit we can not change anymore. we just are. eternal.

This is a touchy subject but my feelings are its the end of your life and that's it. Most people rely on a religion for this because they cant fathom when its over its over so they choose a religion so that they can feel a slight relief about death
