If you're really trying to get big, you need to look into a gym membership. In my opinion, you should be doing about 5-15 sets of 3-8 to increse in size, but you need to be failing at the end of each set. However, there are several schools of thought on the issue. The one thing that I can say for sure is that if all you have to work with is one 20 lb. dumbell you aren't going to see to much in the way of bulk. If you do a ton of reps then you are going to see more lean muscle instead. Also diet plays a huge role in how you build muscle, but that's a whole different question. Good luck!

You can get into shape with a 20 lb dumbbell but to bulk up you will have to add more weight & keep increasing weight. The formula for bulking is: more weight, less reps.

Try lifting every 3rd day. Normal curls, Hammer curls(curls with your palms facing inward) and seated normal curls.

For forearms try your palms facing backwards and lifting them so they are perpendicular to your legs. If you lift the opposite way it would also work for your forearms......
