If you don't want to stand up and say "no smoking in the house", then buy lots of cleaning supplies, a good quality sponge mop, and tell him to get to work. Smoking ruins EVERYTHING. We smoked in our last house, and when we moved, after 4 years of smoking in it, we were disgusted with ourselves when we saw when we moved. We have never smoked in our new home. We had to completely wash every piece of wood furniture with Murphy's oil soap to get the film off of it. When pictures were taken off of the walls in rooms that weren't even smoked in, we were amazed at how the smoke had even damaged the walls in those rooms. (We had made a habit of washing walls in the living room every 3-4 months because the nicotine made them turn so brown, but hadn't noticed in the bedroom & kid's room that were never smoked in until we removed pictures). Smoking in your home leaves a film on everything you own, books, your computer, appliances, your curtains....everything...So, get ready to do a lot of cleaning if you dare THINK you can keep it clean. After writing all of this and remembering how disgusted we were I am wondering why we even still smoke? Oh yeah, we tried to quit and lasted a couple of weeks!!!

Plan on him spending a lot of his extra money on cleaning supplies (why spend yours?) have him get a GOOD quality sponge head mop to wash your walls with (the cheap ones won't last thru even one cleaniing), and MAKE HIM do the work, since he won't go outside.

Better yet....Get a boyfriend who respects you enough to go outside to smoke if you ask.

Impossible. Unless you catch all the smoke in your hands and put it outside before it lands on the walls, you will have smoke smells and stains in your home. I say get a new bf that respects you enough to smoke outside. Seriously, that's not much to ask. I'm sure you make concessions for him, thats life. But he can't keep his deadly smoke outside? Forget about your home, think of your own health. The surgeon general just came out and said second hand smoke is very dangerous. I hope you don't have kids in the house that you allow him to poison. I don't mean that in a mean way, it's a fact. Get him to keep that outside.

Tip for washing walls & ceilings..........
Flat mop with microfibre pad (machine washable) is the BEST
tool for the job. Available in most large grocery & department
stores. $20 or less.
Have the boyfriend wash the walls & celings weekly. After a bit of practise he'll be able to do the baseboards, trim & windowsills
while he's at it.
Rinse the pad under warm running water often.
Good luck.

I'm not sure how to clean the stain, but put a bowl of vinegar on top of your cupboard/cabinet will make the smell go away in seconds. The vinegar lasts for about a month.

A new boyfriend who doesn't smoke, this is your only solution. Make your boyfriend smoke at his own house sounds like a good solution to me also. With the later he won't be stinking up the place for your new boyfriend.

You can keep it clean by refusing to allow him to smoke in the house. I did this to my ex-husband by grabbing the fire extinguisher and pointing it at him- ready to pull the pin. Try that once. Tell him he should show you his love and caring for you by NOT trying to kill you with his cancer filled smoke. Good Luck. I ended up divorcing mine, and I am not married to a NON smoker. Maybe yours will quit smoking.

Smoke outside.

My husband smokes (for 30 years now) and when I had my daughter 4 years ago I asked him to smoke out on our porch instead and the house is great inside.

the guys down the hall in the dorms i stayed in had one and used to smoke week and blow it through it.. it left almost no trace of them smoking whatso ever... i was drop dead amazed b/c i didnt think it was possible... of course they run you about 400 bones tho... but have him cough it up(no pun intended)

best of luck with your situation tho.

The only way is to avoid smoking in the house! Small air purifiers help but do't elimate the problem.
