You mean like dived, swimmed and lighted for dove, swam and lit, respectively (for instance)? Most unfortunately, I think you're fighting an uphill battle. The dumbing down of the english language through the replacement of irregular past tenses with "regularised" past tenses has been going on for decades. I first noticed it about 10-20 years ago with the use of "pleaded" in place of "pled" (as in today I plead my case, yesterday I pled my case). Again, most unfortunately, I think hold-outs for the way it ought to be, such as you and I, are, I fear, relics of a bygone era.

I empathize with you, I really do. And it doesn't bother me a whit when someone rants about 'word police' and other radical nonsense. Proper grammar is so - dignified. I love to read things written by Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, etc. It pains me to think that future generations will look at the records of the Internet and see such a decline in the use of language.

Yet, perhaps it is the way you worded your question that made some people defensive. After all, anyone has the ability to contact the Yahoo! Answers staff, so you could alert them yourself about your issue. In any case, consider this my overall agreement with what is at the heart of your displeasure.

Amen. We should start some kind of improper verb "Go to Jail". And proper punctuation and spelling should be mandatory.

Well, from reading a lot of the posted questions, I'm guessing most people don't even notice when there is a grammatical error.

I believe that that is not important. This is the internet you know. It doesn't not matter what you type or how you spell it. It is better when people do write in propper english, but it is not needed.
