no unless its a MAC.all you need is someone to install it correctly with all the drivers etc.

It does help but its not a must. Most computer components function in the same way and there is usually little or no major difference in design that will make one brand not to funtion when used with a PC of another brand. It is however advisable to buy a CD drive that is the same brand as your computer for a number of reasons including warranty issues.

Not at all - most CD drives are IDE/ATAPI (type of connector). Some older ones are SCSI but there are very few of those (mainly in old powerful computers). Installing a CD drive is fairly easy but if you have no budget constrains I would suggest buying an external USB CD drive (make sure your PC has USB 2.0), otherwise it will be very slow.

No....cd and dvd drives are pretty much generic anymore to a PC tower.
If it is a laptop or an Apple then yes the manufacturers.

no they all are the same size and interface any will work, consider a combo drive CD and DVD in one or a cd burner and DVD burner if you have room in your case, 2 drives make copying much easier
