we are growing up in a world with the media showing stars, having sex, on some of our favourite TV shows. magizines, it everywhere. peer pressure... or if we mite a hard time at home it a way to let go. I have never had sex, yet from the media and TV shows, and sometimes how I feel I know this. Or the parents dont care, or have never talked to them about it. pre teen and teen years are years of fighting with parents which most of us has never dont before. we are confused. Or some arent strong enough to just say NO. Im only 13. I fight with my parents alot, and a couple of times Ive thought of just getting pregnant and having someone who loves me. But I want to be untouched or my husband, so not all teens are having sex. also in their defense. again most of the world says sex before marrige is OKAY.... celebrities, friends, guys, and even some adults.

Sex has become such a taboo in society that it's a rush to do something your parents don't want you to do. Honestly, that was exactly how I lost my virginity, out of spite towards my boyfriend at the time's mom. It was dumb, but I've always been on the rebellious side.
If people stopped glamourizing sex and promoted healthy sexual releases like masturbation, teen pregnancy rates would probably plummet. But the world is so completely close-minded and ************ that it leaves kids waaaaay confused as to what is okay and what isn't. Being a teenager is a time of experimentation and that's how many kids spend their time.
There's also the problem of not having anything better to do. Youth programs that are accessible by any teenager should be instilled everywhere. If a kid was spending their time after school learning a skill or doing something productive, they wouldn't have time to go screw around.
I think before we worry too much about stopping it altogether, we should focus on getting the word of safe sex out there. There are so many affordable, healthy birth control options out there that most kids don't even know about. Teen pregnancy is a HUGE issue, but emphasizing on safe sex is more likely to prevent that than shoving religion and abstinence down people's throats.

well actually society is creating this obsession with sex, and i'll admit i have had sex but i was 17 basically an adult and i knew the consequenses of what could happen, the emotional and phsyical effects it would have on my body, i'm not pregnant, but I think that teens who are having sex at such a young age are trying to mature faster than they need too, I have a younger sister and I mean it's cute when she has a "boyfriend" but that doesn't mean anything, and I constantly tell her, you really don't have to "grow up" until highschool and even then you want to stay a kid because it's hard, and sometimes (guys do this more often) people will tell sex stories that are completely and totally made up because they want to fit in. I honestly feel so bad because I can't do anything it's their decison to have sex and if they make that decision then hopefully it doesn't ruin their lives.

It's not about whether teenagers think it's okay or not! I'm 19 and l'm married should it not be okay for me to have sex? I lost my virginity at 14. You should try looking at it this way. There's nothing society can do to prevent young teens from having sex. Unless they put some kind of device on every young teen that would prevent them from having intercourse until a preacher signs a marriage certificate. Well, then the rate of marriage would go up..I believe there is a set path for everyone before they are even born. Maybe your meant to be a virgin till your married or forever or maybe until your 14. No one knows it just happens because that's how God meant your life to be down to what you have for breakfast tomorrow..

First of all, I am a teen. I know what I'm talking about because I go to school with other teens, and I've felt this too.
(done in third-person)
Teens don't do it because they have low self-esteem or anything like that. They do it because they are horny and it feels good. That's it.
I, personally, am not that stupid. My parents said I could do that if I wanted, as long as I used protection and didn't get anyone pregnant. They knew it was going to happen sooner or later, so they gave me the facts and didn't try to change my mind.
It is true that religion and adult intervention can help prevent it, but then again when those things were more common clever and interesting devices that we would consider torture machines were used to correct those behaviors.
Teens have sex because they want to. Not because they lack anything. You can give them information and guidance, but be careful how you do it.

who cares. i told someone once that maybe this needs to happen and maybe these young girls(and the guys geting them pregnant) need to learn this lesson the hard way. I think society is doing as much as they can to get rid of this epidemic, but its the parents of those individuals that have the problem telling their kid htat its not okay. i also think that some of the girls on here are lying because if you look at their other questions, the info just doesnt add up. especially when they ask "could I be pregnant?" and "how do you have sex?". then you really know sumthings up.

The teens I have talked to consider sex to be as much a part of dating as we considered kissing to be. The think that performing oral sex on the guys the same way. No big deal.
When I tell them how used, dirty, lonely and stupid I felt, they started listening to the rest of the story. How I learned to take care of ME! I learned that saying NO was OK, because if he didn't want anything more than sex I really didn't want him anyway. We raise our kids in a sexually saturated world. Then we expect them not to be curious. They try it and find it not to be all it is advertised so they think they are doing something wrong.
I have become an advocate in my town at the grass roots level. I have a teenage daughter and I take every opportunity I can to talk to her and her friends about the reality of sex. Most of them have decided they are not ready for babies or the emotional mess sex can leave them in. I am proud of them for that.

Seriously what can society do to prevent it. When i was a teen i had sex. Not because of TV or movies or because my friends were having it, actually they weren't when i started, I wanted to have sex i tried to be careful but i was horny and i did it. My parents talked about abstinence to me. Told me to wait not to do it. But it was my choice. I have a child now and she is still a baby. I would like it if she waits but realistically i know she will have sex before she gets out of high school you can't watch them 24/7 if they want to do it they will. I knew kids who's parents were so stric that they couldn't even get calls from the opposite sex in high school but they still had sex they snuck around lied and did it.

Because they're at the age where they're sexually mature.
And we are not stopping it altogether because there's really nothing wrong or immoral. There's no real difference about sex/pregnancy from your teens to adulthood except development and the fact that as a teenager, school is mandatory and parenthood is much more difficult. We're granted freedoms, and, sad to say, many abuse them.

Teens don't have sex just to piss you off. They have sex cause they either think they're in love or are curious.
13-15 yr. Olds that have sex ( children ) are plain stupid.
The only thing you can do to prevent this is lock down your house ( bars on your windows, etc.) so your kids don't have the chance to be with the opposite sex...
