I have been playing guitar for over 30 years now. First of all I have always liked music and I have two older sisters and an older brother who always had music playing as well as my parents had the radio on all the time too. On starting to play guitar: a wonderful and talented friend of mine started playing guitar when we were both about 13 and I was so jealous of the attention he was getting but did not have the calling yet as I was more into poety at that time. That all changed when at 14-15yrs old another friend started to play and I noticed all the attention the girls were giving him. Mind you- I have always liked music-a big Paul McCartney fan - but up until that point I had never really considered playing guitar at all. Then it hit me and my parents got one for my birthday and have not put it down since. I have played both nationally and internationally and have even won various awards and recognition for my music and song writing (notice the poems early on). Music has opened many doors for me and I will always have great memories to share anytime someone asks. George Martin -the producer for the Beatles (a great musician himself) had a wonderful insight about musicians- he said that a musician does not have to wait until a song comes on the radio or until the store opens to listen to a particular tune- he just has to pick up an instrument and play it- that is empowering! If you are thinking about playing guitar-fantastic-definately go ahead and get started. It has given me a lifetime of wonderful experiences and continues to give me great pleasure and company even to this day (I was playing for about an hour earlier). Good luck and enjoy the strumming and picking!

Yes.
Since 1987.
Started in music in 1981, And the guitar was just a natural progression. Played in bands through the late 80's and early 90's. Now settled down and only play at church.

The why question, truth, my girlfriend at the time loved rock guitar. So, I did it for her

Ahh yes, that's right... I was 9, I heard "Guns In The Sky" by INXS and just had to learn it. Been hooked ever since.

I've been playing for about 25 years. I used to play because I liked to drink and smoke pot and had dreams of being a rock star. Now I play because I like to sing praise songs with my Christian friends and honor the Lord!

Psalms 33:1 Shout for joy in the LORD, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. 2 Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings! 3 Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.

I've played off and on for 5 years... but I just started taking lessons last year. I play because it's a bunch of fun, it's cool, it's something to do, and I want to be able to play fun rock songs by my favorite bands.

I do, for the last 8 years. I like to play music when I go camping and it's too hard to fit a piano in your camping gear.
