Portugal won because they are better team. Rooney is good, but over-rated , we lost because we were never the team we thought we were. The penalty short were without force.....even ..I ..could have saved.

The criticism always occurs. "If Rooney was on the field, England would have won"? What if Beckham was in the field up to end? What if Ricardo wasn't playing? What if Deco was playing? What if England had won in the Penatly Kicks?
In case someone is going start putting possibilities in that game, be sure to cover all of the possible ones, not just the ones that you want to care about!
Even if Rooney was on the field, I seriously doubt that he would have made any difference. On the second half, and even on the extra time, Portugal fully dominated England. Ok, they failed to score any goals, but EVERYONE should admit that in those final 75 minutes, England was dominated by their opponents.
About the Penalty Kicks, Lampard and the others didn't surely missed their shots: Ricardo defended 3 of them and even touched the other won. In all matches up to now, Portugal suffered a single goal (against Mexico, if I recall), and everyone should see that Ricardo is currently being an amazing goalkeeper. Above everything, it's thanks to him that England lost the match, not anything else.
Now, why do people critisize that game? In most times, that's an easy answer: like what happens in most soccer matches, there's a winner and loser. The winner's fans get all happy, the loser's fans always find a way to complain about the other team. It's a pity, but it's how stuff usually works...

That is so true, especially:
"People keep saying that Portugal wouldn't have won if Wayne Rooney was still in the game"
What was the score before he wa sent off? Oh yes 0-0
The same for the penalties Ricardo saved them - it was good goal keeping, to me missing is hitting it over the bar or too wide.

I would say Portugal would actually win the game in 90 min if Wayne "Go for Your BALL" Rooney was still on the pitch. After he was sent off, England basically sat in their own half and wait for PK. Without Deco, Portugal had some problem unlock England.
At the same time, I think Portugal just won't mind going to PK as they know they have a better keeper than England!

well, Eriksson might make a mistake on his formation for Rooney, granted if Eriksson knows on how Rooney performed recently, well, my friend, when Rooney was sent off, England Lost one of their forwards,BUT! they still managed to keep a 0-0 until the very last minutes of Extra Time, England performed quite well down when Paul Robinson couldn't save the penalty shots. And for Portugal, Ricardo is a goalkeeper that cannot be underestimated.

Yes yes yes I totally agree with you that Portugal was the better team without any doubt....BUT the arrogant stiff neck English refuse to admit that they are over rated!!! what world cup they were talking about? they said we will win the world cup!! Maybe they mean tea world cup!! You are right Lampard and Gerrard these famous names didn't score and disappointed their fans and their country BUT Ricardo was the champion of the game and so was Cristiano Ronaldo who held the responsibility of the last kick!! Portugal is great team and I hope they play the final match...I believe in group playing not in POLICE advertisement of David Beckham!! I guess he will change his career to acting oneday!!!

Portugal deserves to be in the Semis as the English team did not score after 120 minutes.2 hours of ineptitude. If I were an England supporter I would not want my team to go through to the semis and face that embarrassment again.

i'm portuguese too, and that i hate it while a sport is settled on PK. england did very properly, and so did portugal, and in a concern like that, even nonetheless the PK seems, that's by no ability honest. as for rooney, all i will assert is, this is one component of swipe a passing leg, yet he might have accomplished some irreparable harm by ability of going for that distinctive section. he deserved each little thing he have been given, and that i'm hoping his team friends supply him a good ear finished over it. he might even have fee england the sport.

It was essentially a poor game. England with or without Rooney, simply did not rise to the challenge. From the first game they have failed to come to gether and play as a team. They have the talent on the team to play exciting, attacking , WINNING soccer, but it simply did not happen. You can't doubt their emotion but in the end they left their guts in the locker room.
