There is no black race, no yellow, red or white race only the HUMAN RACE.
Prejudice is rooted in ignorance. The more we learn about each other (both locally and globally) the more we discover that we are all the same. Prejudice is found in all walks of life but has it's foundation among the poor and destitute. Often they have to quit school early to provide for their families (or they quit because their families have not put much emphasis on education - being uneducated themselves). Prejudice is learned and comes from a lack of knowledge about others. The poor do not have the resources to travel and are thereby confining their experiences to a localized region. Any information to come to them from outside that region is second hand and can easily be tainted with prejudice.
A foot note:
On whether they will realize that the emotions they use to promote prejudice are misplaced is a good question. I applaud your decision to be more constructive with those emotions. Spread the word. Inform others about what you've learned and show them how to learn more for them selves.

You are correct that negative emotions are just a waste of time.
However, what on earth does 'homophobia' mean? I guess since you're only 15, it is excusable for you, but I keep hearing that word and it is SO incorrect. Before using that word, people need to look it up in a dictionary. Trouble is, it isn't in there.
And incidentally, just because people do not agree that homosexuality is ok, doesn't mean they have a 'phobia.' Why do people keep labeling a moral, a phobia?

Good for you for realizing this! You really need to help your peers come to the same understanding for things to really change. We are all God's children, he created us just the way he liked us (skin color, race, etc.) and none of us are better than the other.
I can tell you, I live in the 'Great White North' and there are a lot of really good people here of all colors, and we all seem to get along for the most part. Blacks, hispanics and a lot of Native Americans are here along with the majority of whiteys like me. Yes, there are small isolated groups of 'extremists' but in any community you will find these exist, in every race.
If you believe the media, this is a hotbed for racism up here, but incidents are so isolated and far between it just isn't as they portray it.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of people and groups who have an agenda to keep the race pot stirred up, and this is much of the problem. If we are continually bombarded with the idea that there is a race issue and racism running rampant, especially if they over exaggerate certain situations, we tend to start thinking it is more wide spread than it is.
*edited to totally agree with the post below me. I don't agree with homosexual activity, but I am far from phobic of it! I have the right to think it is completely disgusting, just as much as they have a right to do what it is that they do! It still doesn't qualify me as phobic...

Good for you!!
Waking up to the idiocy of 'hate' in all its forms is one of the first steps to emotional maturity and gives the ability to consider all sides of a topic or situation so you are able to make decisions based on the information available rather than just buying into someone else's BS.
Unfortunately, ignorance is like a disease that the victim often doesn't want to cure. In a pool of ignorance, the loudest and proudest is too many times the one influencing those around him or her to spread more ignorance.
I don't know how to cure it, but I choose to take a quiet, but firm stand on the side of being awake. By living my ideals, I think some have seen and been encouraged to think about their beliefs in new ways. I hope so at least.

It's all a form of hate and hate just makes the hater bitter and often lonely. You are wise to have recognized this so early in life as many people die of old age still hating. Remember, though, that old habits die hard and sometimes you may go back to your original thinking; be on guard. No, most ignorant people will not change their minds because this requires admitting they were wrong, which is very difficult for people to do, especially if they don't have much education to fall back on. (School education or life) We must be on guard against those who are willing to spread the hate and get others to hate along with them so that the truth prevails. Spread the truth!

It is a waste of emotions, energy and a waste of life, but people have always felt threatened by what is different from them, even if slightly. Ignorance can only be cured by education and it is only through education that people will learn that we are all not that different and that we can live in peace.

darlin, there are no easy answers to that question. The most human thing to do is to treat everyone with respect regardless of what race they are. There are still, unfortunately, some people still living in the past but be assured, the past always sneaks back up on you. Dont be the them, they are ignorant.

Yes, those things stem from fear and anger, and I feel life's too short to go around scared and angry about everything. Better to just chill and enjoy life as much as you can. Love and peace are the answer.
