They were not as superior as expected and the French played a spirited game but a big crowd in the box seems to work against a finesse team.

I confess..I thought Brazil were the Haarlem Globetrotters of this tournament..the Argentinians looked much better and I wish they were still in it..

Crowding the box made the Brazilians either have to take long shots or somehow beat the French by getting behind their defense, which wasn't going to work because there were so many guys in the box to back up and re-back up and dribbling attempts, and any shots that had a legit chance of a goal had to get around two or three French defenders trying to stop it. I give my props to France, they were able to hold the explosive Brazilian offense for over thirty minutes as they were applying full pressure, not many teams can accomplish that.

I think you're right. They were very defense-heavy. So much so that at times it actually looked like there were more French players on the field than Brazilians. Every time a Brazilian approached the box, it seemed that there were at least 2 or 3 French players on him ready to block any attempted shot.

Brazil so far has not made any remarkable performance in this world cup. Just think - against Ghana they made only 1 goal.
Till the quarter final they met only weak teams and thus could secure quarter final match.

Zidane and his leadership in this match shut down Brazil. He was everywhere on that field and in their faces constantly. The team followed his lead and Brazil never looked like challenging them after the goal was scored.

Whatever it was the French did it just proved that Brazil are not the team everybody thought they were.
