How interesting! I didn't know I couldn't do that until I tried it, just now. I did it with the other fingers straight, but not bent. Then I tried it again a couple of times, and found I COULD raise the ring finger up. Not a long ways up, but a little way. Which suggests to me that it is an action that is not done frequently and thus the musculature needed to perform that action is not well developed. The fact that it could be done, with a little effort and after a few tries, was interesting. But what suggests that my hypothesis might be valid is that my metacarpal area is very fatigued after working on this problem for a few minutes! Hope this helps, and good luck on your test.

The fingers share ligaments &/or the nerves are not specialized enough to separate the individual fingers' movements in this position.

I think this may just be a certain few... kinda like rolling a tongue, genetics perhaps. B/c I can raise my ring finger.

the middle finger and the ring finger are controled by the same muscle. the others are independent of each other.

Personally, I can do it.

Maybe the answer they're looking for is either a psychological reason, or musculature.
