Are you for the death penalty as long as it isn't too severe?

I am completely opposed to the death penalty. The US is the only "civilized" nation that still uses it. As bad as the crime may be, the death penalty is NEVER appropriate. Howare we making anything better by punishing one violent act with another? Doesn't that send a conflicting message?

In addition, our death row system is completely flawed. The majority of people on death row are african american. There are a lot of mentally disabled people on death row. People sit on death row for 20 or more years awaiting their sentence. Plus, it actually costs more money to sentence someone to death than to give them a life sentence in jail. These are just a few of the problems.

I actually went to a lecture given by Sister Helen (author of Dead Man Walking) and she definitely helped me to make up my mind. I was unsure at the time what my stance was, but she was VERY convincing.

I don't believe in capital punishment I think it is always wrong 2 take the life of another it is not going to solve anything by taking another life i think it is better for a person to rot in jail knowing that they have no way of going beyond those 4 walls

I believe taht the death penalty should be administered to those who maliciously take the lives of the innocent. The gulity should be put to death relitivly painlessly and humane as possible. Nothing condones torture of another living thing.
why should murders be allowed to keep the very thing that they stole from another? Life is too precious to let it go with out some retaliation. Blood for blood, I say.

I think the death penalty is pointless in most cases. I mean, if you're on death row, the victim of your crime probably isn't alive to have the satisfaction of seeing you put to death. I'm not for or against it, but I think rotting in a cage for the rest of your life is better punishment than getting off easy. ((Even if you're probably not going to Heaven.))

I am for the death penelty and wish it was more severe in some cases. Jeffery Dahmer was spared the death penelty by the courts but had the appropriate and fitting sentence carried out by his fellow inmates.

You're confused. It is not wrong to take another person's life, if it is justified to do so. What is wrong is murder. Capital punishment is not murder.
