If anyone has any suggestions as to where i can get a good reasonably priced hood and filter for a 29 gallon tank? Does anyone know any good websites for this? Any particular brands better than the rest for their price?

I have a 29 gallon eclipse tank that came with a mechanical, chemical and biological filter in the hood as well as florescent lighting. The 'kit' also came with a heater. The tank has been running for two years (salt water but would do well with freshwater) and I have had no problems with it.

When you order the hood, just make sure it is the same brand as the tank...or at least the same measurements. I may be stating the obvious, but sometimes it is confusing-I've heard of hoods for 20g tanks from one company not fitting a 20g from another.

I usually get inexpensive filters from local chain stores. They do the job and at a lower price.

I prefer Penguin Bio-Wheel filters, as they're very reliable and help your cycling process pass much more quickly.

Also, if you go to Petsmart's online site (www.petsmart.com), and you find anything you like or need on there, print out the page that has the price and take it into the store with you. They will match the price online (which will very likely be much cheaper than the in-store price), and you'll save a ton of money.

Example - You'll need a kit to test your ammonia/nitrites/nitrates and pH. If you go to Petsmart, you'll pay $29. If you print their ad off of their website, you'll only pay $14.

Good luck!

try this:
http:www.freecycle.org
You will need to sign it but it is free.
They do accept donations (so do I for that matter) as do most places.
You can get and give away free stuff.
