It's one of those local issues that local lawmakers get to decide depending on the terrain, vegetation, and maybe the extent of their firefighting resources. Do you want the eggheads in Washington DC deciding everything for your community?

each state has the right to decide whether or not fireworks are legal.
i live in phoenix,az and for OBVIOUS reasons-fireworks are illegal here. people here have enough problems putting out their cigarettes and campfires which cause brushfires everywhere b/c we are such a dry state-fireworks would just triple the problem!!
i know back east in places like North and South carolina as well as mississippi-they are legal-i used to live there as a child and we were allowed fireworks

It's a city ordinance. Each city decides its own laws on fireworks. In some cities, it's illegal to have any fireworks. In other cities, they are legal as long as they don't leave the ground (i.e., sparklers are ok, but artillery shells aren't).

Well maybe the branch of government feels people shouldn't because many people will sneack in illegal fireworks, and it will cause too much trou=ble and will cost a lot of money to put out yearly fires and repair damages, i think you should be able too but rules are rules i recomend you coming to another state for the 4th but i think its too late for this year, sorry you can't use fireworks but please try to understand. :)

Um....maybe becausein Washington there are TONS OF TREES, and where I live, the HomeOwners Assc. won't allow it. Some people just don't wanna listen to it. Yeah, they're fun, but other's might have to go to work early the next day.

I have No idea. But I think it is wrong that some can and some can't. Every state should be able too.
