Someone once told me that you can take a hard drive out of your comuter and plug it into some sort of case and it will turn into a USB external hard drive that I can then plug into my new computer. I've looked into it, but I can't find anything that looks like that. Does anyone know anything about it like a model number, where I can buy it, or an approximate cost? Thanks.

I'm not looking for an external hard drive, I'm looking for a case to plug in my internal hard drive to convert it into an external hard drive.

at320 has the best suggestion. Look at Newegg, they are amazing.
I assume you mean a hard drive from a desktop computer (3.5" ide). The link is to external enclosures, usb, 3.5" on Newegg. Look for one with lots of reviews and at least 4 out of 5 stars.

Such things exist. You take out the hard drive and put it in a case. Insert cables. Plug it in the USB Port. Windows will detect it (Windows 98 SE and onwards).
Where can you buy it? Search it up on Froogle and it will offer you the best prices. Don't just take advice from a sales assistance. Buy online where it can be as much as half the RRP price. Don't buy any products over half the Recommended Retail Price. WARNING: TAKE CARE NOT TO BUY COUNTERFEIT PRODUCTS. THESE PRODUCTS ARE ILLEGAL HERE IN THE US

They are called an external HDD case they can be bought at comp usa for about $30 a better alternative is to put it in your case as a slave as HDD dont like being bumped and externals have a tendency to be drooped and bumped and then they fail
