From birth. Some theaters will actually have the nerve to *charge* you for a baby (even though they don't take up a seat), but other than that, what's the problem? It gets difficult when you have an older baby or toddler who can't sit still long enough, but a young baby is rarely a problem--just nurse and she/he will be quiet and let you watch the movie.

You can take a baby at any age, but I would NOT recommend you taking them before they are able to sit quietly through the movie (not a certian age on sitting quietly, my daughter can sit quietly through a movie now and she is not even two and other kids can't until they are four or five). I know a woman who got to go to the movies with her two year old son as much as she wanted. She would take a big blanket and a TON of rolled up socks (he LOVED socks) and he would sit on the blanket and play with the socks while she enjoyed her movie.

It is all what you are willing to put up with really. You definately want to be sure that your child will be good while you are at the movies or you will be forced to leave (distracting other movie goers) and it will be a waste of money.

Also, check around with your local movie theaters, some are having "Mommy Time" where moms can bring their kids and don't have to worry about them disturbing others because they are ALL moms with kids. Also some theaters have free movies in the summer (usually they are old movies, like here they are showing Elmo in Grouchland, among others, and I thought it would be the PERFECT first movie for my daughter because we have it and watch it AT LEAST once a day). Just check around, they may have a kid friendly times (like Mommy Time) or free movies (the ones here start at 10 AM SHARP and you probably have to show up early because seats fill up quickly).

Hope it helps some.

Also I know when my daughter was a newborn we could go, she would sleep right through it and wake only long enough to eat or get a diaper change. She didn't disturb anyone because I held her and antisipate when she would cry. Just be sure to take extra blankets, those places are cold sometimes!

Good Luck!

We have free kid's movies here where I live in the mornings. We started when she was 6 weeks old. Try and get in a movie geared for kids. No one should say anything about your baby making a cry, because they are to busy trying to get their own kids to sit still..lol..

Actually, my baby slept all through the movie the first time.. The second time she watched a few minutes then fell asleep. I have a pretty calm baby. Sit near the back so you can get up if you need to. Bring one of those mats to change the baby just in case they don't have a diaper changing area.. And I use it anyway on top to prevent germs.

Bring an extra blanket in case the air conditioning is to much, even in the summer. I use the infant carrier, instead of the stroller, so I don't have to worry about her rolling, even though we do have brakes.

Try and go to the earliest movie possible. For me that works. They are in better moods. And finally, take someone with you, so they can watch the diaperbag, infant seat, and what nots, in case you need to get up and take her for a little walk. Its better to have help if you can.

Try it. Have fun... If it does not work.. wait three months and try again=)

An age where they can enjoy the movie and, very importantly, not cry. I love my neice to death, but when she was littler, I wouldn't have taken her to the movies. She was a bit of a crier. However, my cousin's child you could take to the movies earlier. He's just the happiest little boy.
Some children are afraid at the movie theaters. My sister was afraid of the Omnimax when she was young. When she went there she asked our father where they were going ( the ones that feel like you're moving), and was afraid that they wouldn't be able to get back ome. I on the other hand, loved the Omnimax at the same age as she was afraid.

After my daughter was born, we took her to movies all the time. We made sure they weren't loud, so she wouldn't be scared. Around the time she turned 1, she started being noisy, so we were spending half the movie in the hallway with her, so we stopped going. Now that she's 3, we are taking her to movies again, but only kids movies. Also, about age 1 is when our daughter started noticing what was on the movie or TV screen, so be careful what you're watching when the little ones are around.

I think that they can go at any age, but I don't recomend that you take your child if they are younger than 3, maybe if they are just a few months because they won't want to run around. I took my son when he was 18 months and he just wanted to go run around and didn't let us watch the movie and bugged the people around us. Kids at that age are too young and don't want to sit still for 2 hours so you can't enjoy the movie and they have a really bad time. Once your child starts liking tv and asks to watch something that's when you take them to the movies, because then they enjoy it more and you can have fun.

I wouldn't any more take a baby to a movie than I would talk on my cell phone, well it is just common courtesy. My three boys were at least 3 or 4 years old before they went to a movie theater, then they were old enough to sit still and enjoy the movie.

I never took my girls to the movies until they were 3 1/2. the movie is so loud it Can hurt there little ears and if the baby starts to cry then everyone around you gets pissed...it really isn't good idea. even at 3 1/2 she couldn't handle sitting there for and hour and I would have to leave and waist $30 on a movie I neither liked and finished.

I think two years old would be the best time to take a child to the movies, because they are not crying over loud sounds, and they are able to sit and enjoy the movie. But a baby can go to the movies any time I think.
