My grandma bought a small tank for her betta fish and she was wondering if it will survive because the tank has bubbles.

Yes your betta can be in a tank with bubbles. A lot of pet shops keep them in with their tropical fish and I have too. If your tank has a filter then you will have cleaner water and a healthy fish. Leave the bubbles going and enjoy your happy fish.

Over two years ago, when I had my Jake(a betta), I had kept him in an unfiltered 2.5 gallon tank and there were always little bubbles on the top that didn't break. Once he was put into a cycled 10 gallon with a filter, there were no more bubbles. Sometimes even in unfiltered tanks, biofilms(which are harmless) can form on the surface and when this happens, any bubbles that the betta makes becomes more difficult to break. Just recently, I had a floating plant that was blocking the filter current in my 10 gallon from moving the water's surface around and there were always little bubbles at the top that never broke but when I removed the plant and added a different type of floater, the bubbles eventually broke and now the only bubbles at the top are the ones in his bubblenests underneath the Water Lettuce leaves. Now what should you do about it? Nothing. It's harmless and it's not going to bother your betta any so just leave it be although I would recommend that you listen to The Original FISHMAN and get your betta at least a 5 gallon tank with a heater and filter. Or if your betta does not like filter currents in any way or you don't want to use one, set up the tank using the Walstad method. I always recommend this type of set up for bettas!

Bubbles don't do much of anything for a betta, but generally don't harm it. Unless you're keeping other fish with betta, or the bubbles are from an under gravel filter I turn it off. Most people believe bettas are "happier" without bubbles or strong current. Ideally in the case of a filter you might want to turn it down a bit. (You can buy a cheap plastic valve to adjust air flow in the case of an air pump.)

That said I know people who's bettas love to play in bubbles, and my bettas like to play in the current from the filter. (In my tanks my bettas have a fake log/rock to get out of the current and/or hide.)

PS- You folks should do a little reading about bettas. See link.

Betta fish come from very oxygen deprived waters and often will live in just a small puddle. They are what is called Laberynth fish. The have a special organ in the top or their head that allows them to get their oxygen by gulping air off the surface of the water. Your betta can live in a tank with bubbles yes, but you don't want alot of turbulance in the water, as they aren't accustomed to alot of movement in their environment.

Your grandmas betta fish will do great with the bubbles, those bubble is a supply of oxygen. betta fish generally don't need a whole lot of oxygen, the fish swim to the top of the water to breath in their air.

Your grandma doesn't have to use the bubbles if its gonna affect her betta. I am sure the betta is fine with bubbles. But if not just turn it off and her betta should be alright.

Yes it won't hurt them, either way as long as you keep the tank and water clean and don't put another betta in the same tank they are fairly hardy fish and a lot of fun to watch.

As long as the bubbles are not moving too fast. They like slow water. and not much biger than a 10 gal. too much water and too many fish will just stress him out and kill him. I took one and put him in a 30 all by himself for 2 months then added 3 baby cories. i waited another month and added in some female guppies (4) no males as he will attack them

Sure. Beta's need very little water, though. They are Japanese fish that live in rice puddles. They survive in small tanks well. I have one named Sake.
