realtor.com is a good source of home listings. Zillow.com show best estimate of home values in selected areas. I'm on my third house in 18 years. Suggest buy small in a good neighborhood with a conventional 30 yr loan. This will keep your monthly payments low so you can invest in home improvements. Live in it a 5-8 years and then start buying up with the equity you gained. My first house was 1100 sq ft, second was 1500 sq ft, and my current house is 2250 sq ft. My third house is valued eight times what I paid for my first house. Tonight, I just finished retiling my main bath shower myself, saving $1600 to $2000 over paying a contractor.

Home Buying for Dummies is a great book for your situation. OR you could contact me and we can look at your options/ideas together and come up with a plan that meets your goals/needs. Good luck!

Realtor.com, Livingchoices.com, Yahoo (real estate), also I suggest SuzeOrman.com and her books. Be smart--do your homework, read everything you can, look at all the sites, make sure you understand what you are doing.
