It depends on how you act when you're online. Some people get on those just to be pedophiles or have peds come up to them.
I have a myspace and I only add my friends and music artists.

Moreover, it's all in the discrepancy of the parent. If they don't think it's safe for you, show them ways that it is, or just obey their wishes and find other ways to connect with your friends online.

the internet is only as dangerous as parents allow it to be. parents are ultimatly responsible for what happens in their childs life. if more parents get involved with their childrens online activities and stop using the compuiter as a babysitter maybe some of these internet horror stories would fade away.

Apparently yes. Sickos out there use the info that you post on the internet to track you down, use your identity, and other things. What I do is enter fake info on everything. Convince your mom by saying you will put up fake info so that nobody will know your "real" identity> ;-)

Yes. They are incredibly dangerous. Your mom is right to not let you have one. My mommy says I can't have one, but she doesn't have to worry, cause I'm not gonna make one and get killed or raped. It's to dangerous to even be on answers!!!!! lol!!!

as long as you don't give out your hometown, address, phone number, last name, or any other personal information than it is safe. Don't add anyone as a friend that you haven't met in person like at school and don't talk to anyone you don't know unless they are from school.

no, she just doesn't want to supervise you while you are online. yet you are probably here unsupervised so what's the difference? and if you are here accompanied by her, then more power to her. an example these lazy, whiney parents need to follow.
