There are many sites on the web which address American Indian subjects and some follow here. However, you should narrow your focus, as others here have stated, the subject is too large in the way you have asked it. Those referred to as American Indians are not a single culture but a wide and diverse culture comprised of many peoples. These multiple cultures can be quite different in many different areas, not the least of which is geographic, and time in that they moved and changed over time. Another approach would be to draw a time line between the contact with Europeans and seek information before and after that time line.
Looking only at symbols is a very large subject and has little meaning without focusing on a specific area.

It all depends on what tribe you are looking for. Also, if I were you I would check out some of the group pages on www.myspace.com. There is one called Native Pride and the other is 500 nations. Both consist of members from different tribes and bulletin boards.

Read anything by Frederick Manfred, a writer from southern Minnesota, who wrote many novels about the Plains Indians. He was made on honorary member of the Sioux tribe because of his insightful sympathetic portrayal of Native Americans.
