The existence of trillions of galaxies each with trillions of stars suggest that there is a definite likelihood of biological species somewhere in space. Unfortunately the grandeur of space and time makes it remote that we would find a species similar to ours in the immediate neighborhood of space (e.g. a few lightyears to few thousand lightyears). Imagine, even if we find some species at 1000 lightyears, it is not conceivable that we could generate a meaningful conversation with them since each exchange would take over 1000 years to reach one side.
The bonding with alien species might depend on developing faster-than-light (FTL) communication. It is better to take the FTL discussions to another thread.
