Overall your toyotas and hondas non sport models are gonna do great. Although Hybrid is the way to go for true fuel economy.
In europe and other nations there are a lot more choices, 8cylinder engines are unheard of because truly they are not necessary. If you can get your hands on a Renault, not only is it good on fuel but it's super durable. And perhaps one of the best would be the original "bug" not the new ones. A great car by many standards.

i have a Kia it runs great has lots of power and great gas milage. my wife loves it too and it was not very expensive to buy
