You can die from certain types of food poisoning, like Botulism, for example. This is usually quite rare. Most of the time, food poisoning is not fatal, you only wish you were dead. When the tainted food, clears the digestive tract, you usually start feeling better, quite rapidly.

You most certainly can. And if you don't die, you often wish you would. Food poisoning is totally miserable. The symptoms are vomiting and diarrhea, often at the same time, as the body tries to rid itself of the toxins ingested with the spoiled food. The innocuous part of it is, while it is obvious that some foods have spoiled, others give no indication that anything is wrong. They look and taste as normal.

Diarrhea and vomiting are common in food poisoning, therefore dehydration is possible. Being dehydrated depletes the bodies electrolytes necessary to sustain life. So, if they are not replaced, then yes food poisoning can be fatal.

I would say rarely unless you have become intoxicated by Clostridium Botulinum(Botulism). It forms as spores;anaerobic(microorganisms that do not require oxygen to grow). Symptoms: vomiting and constipation or diarrhea may be present initially; progresses to fatigue, weakness, vertigo, blurred or double vision, difficulty speaking and swallowing, dry mouth; eventually leading to paralysis and death. Incubation period: 4 hours to 8 days; usually 12-36 hours. Duration of Illness: Several days to 1 year. Source: Present on almost all foods of either animal or vegetable origin; soil; water. Foods involved in outbreaks: foods that were underprocessed or temperature abused in storage; canned low-acid foods; untreated garlic-and-oil products; sauteed onions in butter sauce; leftover baked potatoes; stews; meat/poultry loaves; potential risks for MAP(modified -atmosphere packaging) and sous vide products. Preventative measures: Do not use home-canned products; use careful time and temperature control for sous vide items and all large, bulky foods; purchase only acidified garlic-and -oil mixtures and keep refrigerated; saute onions to order; rapidly cool leftovers.
There are other types of intoxication that can be considered harmful/cause death.
Listeriosis can cause spontaneous abortion or stillbirth; most often affects fetuses, infants, and pregnant women.
E. coli o157:H7 (Enterohemorrhagic-EHEC) may cause kidney failure in some people; symptoms more severe in the very young(has been known to lead to death).
Toxoplasmosis(Toxoplasma gondii) can cause miscarriage; most often affects fetuses, and pregnant women. A simple test can tell you if you are immune or not.

no, but you can die from someone poisoning your food. does that make sense? if someone puts like, arsenic in your food, you will die, but the typical nausea causing food poisoning can't kill you

Butulism is a food poison and WILL kill you. It paralizes your entire body first, then you die without even being able to move or blink your eyes. Nasty stuff.
